Brass sheet plate has excellent plasticity (the best brass) and high strength, good machinability, easy welding, very stable to general corrosion, but prone to corrosion cracking. Brass belt is an alloy of copper and zinc, named for its yellow color. Brass tape has good mechanical properties and wear resistance. It can be used to manufacture precision instruments, ship parts, shell of guns and so on. Brass sounds good, so gongs, cymbals, bells, horns and other instruments are made of brass. According to chemical composition, brass can be divided into two kinds: ordinary brass and special brass.
(1) Ordinary brass is a copper-zinc binary alloy. Because of its good plasticity, it is suitable for making sheet, bar, wire, pipe and deep drawing parts, such as condensation pipe, radiator pipe, mechanical and electrical parts, etc. Brass with an average copper content of 62% and 59% can also be cast, which is called cast brass.
(2) In order to obtain higher strength, corrosion resistance and good casting properties, special brass is formed by adding Al, Si, Mn, Pb and Sn into copper-zinc alloy. Such as lead brass, tin brass, aluminum brass, silicon brass, manganese brass and so on.
